Geranylgeraniol (GG) is the raw fuel for some of our bodies most important processes. Very few people other than some scientists and well-informed Doctors are aware of this substance.
It plays a vital role in the mevalonate metabolic pathway– the series of chemical reactions in our bodies to support:
The mevalonate pathway is a key metabolic pathway. It is instrumental in the production of cholesterol and Geranylgeraniol (GG) which is required for the synthesis of prenylated proteins, CoQ10, Vitamin K2 MK-4, testosterone and other vital substances.
As we age, levels of GG in our bodies diminish, and this can be a factor in age-related conditions. This process is accelerated if you are taking a statin or one of the bisphosphonate medications.
This is because these medications cause ‘roadblocks’ in this mevalonate pathway. Statins are effective in lowering cholesterol because the ‘roadblock’ restricts the enzymes that the liver needs to produce cholesterol (note: 80% of the cholesterol in our bodies is produced by our livers, only 20% is from diet).
BUT… they also cut off the supply of the ‘fuel’ that our bodies need to produce GG, and this is serious because only a small portion of the GG that our bodies need can be obtained by diet. We are reliant on our own bodies to manufacture it.
When we are deficient in GG, all sorts of health issues may stem from it and is a major factor in the common side effects found by those people who are on statin medications. The side effects are primarily due to the reduction in Protein Prenylation that keeps the muscles healthy, and the lack of this process may lead to muscle pain.
The diagram below helps illustrate this:
Many scientists and health professionals are aware of the problems resulting from a GG deficiency in both ‘healthy’ aging people and those on medications, but there was no easy solution.
It has been well established by many researchers worldwide over many years in cellular experiments that taking GG exogenously (orally) would restore natural levels of GG in the body and negate the ill effects of its deficiency due to age or medications. The challenge was to find a suitable natural source of GG. GG is present in nature as part of some plants but only in small quantities.
Dr. Barrie Tan, PhD American Scientist and Researcher, solved the problem of how to replenish GG in the body naturally. Dr. Tan is also a world expert on vitamin E and Tocotrienols.
He has multiple PhD's and has spent his career travelling and searching out solutions to issues that affect the health of our bodies. He was a pioneer in the field of vitamin E and Tocotrienol research and uncovered a lot of misconceptions in the area of vitamin E, which everyone should be aware of.
He is the author of an enlightening and entertaining book called 'The Truth about Vitamin E', which we would urge everyone to read. We can provide you with a free copy by clicking here.
After more than 10 years of research on GG, vitamin E and Tocotrienols, Dr. Tan perfected a technique of naturally extracting GG from the Annatto seeds harvested sustainably from the Amazon rain forest.
He was already very familiar with this plant after researching possible natural sources from the Amazon rain forest over many years. He developed the means of extracting Tocotrienols from the annatto seed and ultimately managed to perfect the technology to extract the GG as well... without the use of solvents or other chemicals.
This enabled us to produce the product GG PURE and make it available to our customers.
The below image illustrates the objective of GG PURE, which is to 'top up' and help support your GG at normal healthy levels.
NOTE: Because it is 'downstream' of the part of the pathway that statins use to inhibit the production of cholesterol, it has no negative impact on the efficacy of the statin medication.
Ivor Cummins, who is on our scientific board, recently interviewed Dr. Barrie Tan to talk about GG. The video is quite technical but has a good explanation of how GG can benefit you.
If you are on either of the medications referred to, we would suggest that you talk to your Doctor about adding GG PURE to your regimen. It has no negative impact on your medications.
If you are free of medications but over 45 years of age, it would be a good idea to add it to your normal supplement regimen, even if you are taking Total Balance or any of our supplements. GG PURE is complimentary to all of them and has a different mechanism of action, and will support your overall health objectives.
We have prepared a document for our customers who wish to dig deeper into the technicalities of this product or who wish to give a copy to their Doctor. Click on the image to download.

Geranylgeraniol (GG) is a substance that is made in the human body via a biochemical pathway called the mevalonate pathway. This is the same biochemical pathway that makes cholesterol, CoQ10, dolichol and Heme A.
GG is extracted from the Annatto plant (Bixa Orellana) using a clean (no solvents) extraction process.
Difficult to say as it is a new product and most of the studies have been laboratory-based but it would be reasonable to expect to feel differences within three months.
There are no known side effects published in the literature.
This was the main factor in developing this product. It should not affect the ability of your statin to lower cholesterol. However, you should always consult your doctor prior, if you are taking any medications.
While there is no evidence to suggest and adverse interactions with medications, you should consult your doctor prior to starting any new supplement, especially if you take blood thinners.
We also recommend if customers wish to add our Omega 3 / QH Ultra to GG PURE.
GG is involved in numerous cellular functions, most notably is involved in muscle cell formation, muscle cell health and muscle cell structure. GG is also a building block of CoQ10. The main benefits are that it may assist with statin-induced muscle pain and/or weakness. Other benefits include supporting healthy testosterone levels and supporting healthy Vitamin K2 and Calcium deposition into bones and teeth.
Geranylgeraniol (GG) is available in supplement form. When taken orally, this is converted to the active form in the body, which is called geranylgeranylpyrophosphate (GGPP).
GG will not help with your cholesterol as it is downstream in the biochemical (mevalonate) pathway.
Our view is a resounding yes. BUT, when you have any condition you should get your Doctors OK before commencing on any supplement regimen.
There is no evidence to suggest taking GG would cause a problem for someone with stents. However, you should consult your doctor prior to starting GG.
Geranylgeraniol (GG) - Xtend-Life uses a multi-patented ingredient called GG-Gold™. It is made in a GMP facility in Massachusetts, the USA using a clean, physical extraction process from the Annatto plant. As the material is derived from a natural source, seasonal as well as batch-to-batch colour variation is normal. The difference in colour has no impact on the quality or efficacy. The normal colour range is off-white to light yellow/gold powder. There are no chemicals used during extraction. Every batch of GG-Gold™ is tested by Xtend-Life before being used in GG PURE to ensure the highest level of safety & quality.
Yes GG is derived from the Annatto plant. The capsule is derived from plant cellulose.
If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before taking GG.
If you are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before taking GG.

Just started the supplement a few weeks ago, so I have to wait longer to see results. May I say that dealing with the company was a pleasure. Ordering procedure was fast, efficient, and very pleasant. Delivery was prompt.
