NR6 - The latest scientific anti-aging breakthrough
You may have heard of NAD+ which is an acronym for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It is a critical molecule found in every cell in our bodies and is needed for energy creation, cellular function and DNA repair. Scientists believe that the decline in this molecule is one of the most important processes leading to premature aging or death. Can that decline be arrested if healthy levels of NAD+ is restored in our bodies? The evidence suggests that for most people the answer is yes. This is what brought about the development of NR6.
But first some explanations…
What is so special about NAD+?
Without NAD+ in our cells, we would be dead in less than 30 seconds. It is responsible for multiple enzymatic processes which are critical to repairing DNA damage and creating energy. It is the failing of these enzymatic processes that slow down our DNA repair which in turn leads to aging. If we can maintain our DNA repair processes for longer we could expect to live longer and healthier.
Even though NAD+ is one of the most critical molecules in our bodies… there is a problem!
Have a look at this diagram which relates to levels of NAD+ in our bodies and a DNA damage marker. Pretty frightening:
As your DNA damage increases with age it is reflected in:
- Saggy and dull skin
- Reduction in energy
- Degenerative conditions
- Loss of libido
- Fuzzy thinking and memory loss
- Poor sleep
If you are getting up in years, reflect on how you were feeling and looking a few decades earlier. If you can raise the NAD+ levels in your body and kick start the DNA repair process you have a good chance of ‘regaining some of your youth’.
On the other hand, if you are younger and can sustain good levels of NAD+ in your body for longer, then you have a good chance of slowing down 'Mother Time' because not only does NAD+ play a real role in ensuring DNA repair, it is a major player in energy production.
The problem… how do we restore NAD+ levels?
Do we take an NAD+ pill? Nope, that won’t work. Do we take another form of NAD called NADH because it is possible to get NADH pills? NADH goes back and forth from NAD+ to NADH in a circular manner so that would seem logical. But nope, that doesn’t work either. Our founder, Warren Matthews, investigated that possibility almost 17 years ago with a scientist in Austria who developed an NADH product.
The problem with NADH is that, unlike NAD+ which diminishes with age, NADH increases and the body thinks it has enough NAD+ and stops making it. By taking NADH it makes the situation worse. So, we have to increase our NAD+ levels without increasing the NADH.
Scientists have found a safe and natural way to restore healthy levels of NAD+ in our bodies. Multiple studies have been done both on animals and humans… we have provided a list of references at the bottom of this page.
The solution is to use a natural precursor to generate the extra NAD+ in our bodies. There are two options. One is called NR which is short for Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride and the other is NMN which is short for Nicotinamide mononucleotide. These are forms of Vitamin B3 but quite unique.
We set our Chief Scientist Dr Amanda Wiggins PhD to the task of thoroughly investigating the pros and cons of each precursor as a base for a new product to help raise NAD+ levels. We had the option of using either.
After reviewing hundreds of clinical and preclinical papers, the decision was made to go with NR. The rationale for this is covered in some of the resources/blogs referred to below. It’s a bit technical but easy to read.
Because there were several NAD+ precursor products on the global market we did as we always do… endeavour to make a better and more effective supplement! We also wanted to enhance the efficacy of one of the most important enzymatic processes which are to create sirtuins which are important in the process of DNA repair. To achieve this we had to make some synergistic enhancements.
Sirtuins play a critical role in DNA repair but they are largely dependent upon a good supply of NAD+. Scientists have established that it is possible to ‘boost’ the effect of the NAD+ on sirtuins by the addition of specific ingredients. For this reason, we developed NR6 with not only NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) but another five synergistic ingredients as well… hence the name NR6.
*Methylation is where a molecule called a methyl group is added to another molecule, such as DNA or a protein, so that molecule is able to function. Methyl groups are produced by a process called the methylation cycle. The methylation cycle involves lots of different molecules in the body, including S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), homocysteine and methionine, and is dependent on specific nutrients including folate and Vitamin B12. Proper methylation is required for good health, for example, methylation is responsible for lowering homocysteine. High homocysteine levels are a risk factor for age-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. In short, we want plenty of methylation to keep our circulating homocysteine levels in check and to support numerous other methylation reactions.
NR6 is now quite arguably the most advanced NAD+ precursor supplement on the global market today and incorporates the latest verifiable science.
For those people who would like to get a better understanding of NR6 and the rationale behind it our Chief Research Scientist Dr Amanda Wiggins PhD has prepared a series of papers for your information.

What are the benefits of NR6?
NR6 is an effective precursor to NAD+ when taken orally. NAD+ provides cellular energy and supports healthy aging through hundreds of biochemical reactions in every cell in your body.
How does Xtend-Life ensure the quality of the NR in its NR6?
We source our Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride (NR) from one of the world-leading suppliers of this ingredient. Our supplier is accredited to the ISO9001 international quality standard. We test every batch of NR for identification and purity by an independent GMP-certified laboratory here in New Zealand. The minimum standard we have set for NR purity is 98% with the typical results exceeding 99% purity.
How long will it take to notice a difference?
Virtually impossible to say as it varies with each individual. The data suggests that the effect is cumulative and takes about three months to kick in whereas some individuals can feel benefits after just a few days.
What age is this suitable from?
Although NR6 can be taken by anyone 18 years and older it is really not necessary until someone is getting to age 30+ when NAD+ levels start to drop sharply.
Can I take NR6 alongside my pharmaceutical medications or supplements?
There should be no issues with taking it alongside your other supplements. Unlikely to be any issues with Pharmaceuticals and there are no reports of any issues but if you are on medication you should check with your health provider to confirm.
Are there any side effects from taking NR6?
There is always the possibility of minor side effects such as stomach upsets from any supplement. Taking non-enteric coated supplements just prior to food minimizes such a possibility. There are no known serious side effects with NR6.
Is NR6 safe to take?
The safety and/or efficacy of Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride are supported by many human clinical trials some of which are listed in the references. Nicotinamide Riboside has achieved regulatory acceptance by the U.S. FDA, Health Canada, the European Commission and Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia.
What's the difference between NR (Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride) and NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide)?
NMN is another precursor to NAD+ and is popular with some people. We had the option of using either NMN or NR. Costs were similar. However, after considerable resource, we felt that NR had benefits over and above NMN. There was also stronger scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of NR over NMN. We prepared a 'paper' on this rationale.
Should I take supplements that have NADH?
We have investigated the option of NADH extensively over the years and concluded that using a precursor for NAD+ was a much more effective protocol. This is further explained in a paper under Resources on this product page.
Can the daily dosage be increased?
Some studies on humans have been up to 6 times higher than the recommended dose rate for NR6 with no problems. We are aware of some people doubling their dose for short periods but it is not something we recommend. The ideal dose which is safe and effective is 300mgs a day of the NR which is contained in one capsule of NR6. It is also the amount recommended by all the major regulatory authorities. So, best to stay with one cap a day.
I already take Total Balance. Is there any benefit for me to add NR6?
Absolutely if you can fit it in your supplement budget. This product has quite a different action to Total Balance. Whereas Total Balance will have some benefit on raising your NAD+ levels NR6 is very targeted to boosting NAD+ to youthful levels and works synergistically with Total Balance.
Will I be overdosing on folate and B12 if I am taking NR6 in addition to Total Balance?
No, not at all even with Total Balance and NR6 combined the total dose is well within acceptable safety limits. Any excess is excreted in the urine.
Is NR6 suitable for vegans and vegetarians?
Yes, all the ingredients are vegan suitable and the capsules are vege-caps.
Does NR6 contain soy, gluten or dairy?
Can I take NR6 if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
NR6 contains 300mgs of NR (Nicotinamide Riboside). NR is approved for pregnant and lactating women up to 230mgs a day. NR6 exceeds those amounts so if you wish to take NR6 you should only do so in conjunction with the advice of your health provider.
Can I give this to my child?
NR6 is not suitable for children unless prescribed by a Doctor.
I am on my second bottle. I seem to have more energy. My skin is more firm possibly because I also use the Skin Support supplement. I’m so excited about my renewed youth I ordered and just received the Sheep Placenta collagen. These three items working in tandem are remarkable. But I digress…the NR6 is definitely restoring my vitality! Thank you xtend-life for your product excellence!
I love this product. After a month of taking it I have more energy, focus, and clarity than I have had in years. Didn't notice a difference immediately but am definitely noticing now. I will continue to purchase this product going forward.
Still awaiting delivery of the NR6 which I am eagerly awaiting, but the hopeless Cyprus postal system still has not delivered. I hope to be able to give it 5 stars after delivery and trial
I have taken NR6 for a little over a month. In short I like it. I have less brain fog. I sleep more sound at night. I have a blood condition call Thalassemia B, it presents with low Hemoglobin and high Iron. With low Hemoglobin my energy level is low and brain fog is terrible, this supplement is the first one that I have found that helps with the brain fog.
I have been on a very disciplined regime now for almost 12 months that includes a combination of supplements and intermittent fasting. My daily routine has become extremely consistent over the last 9-12 months. Recently, I noticed my right eyelid was starting twitch noticeably at odd times of the day. At first, I thought this was possibly due to the extended time that I now spend in front of the computer screen due to my WFH habits. I happened to listen to the anti-aging podcasts of David Sinclair and then came upon the Xtend-Life product NR6 that uses Nicotinamide Riboside and Resveratrol. Once I received the NR6 order, I began to take it immediately. This was the only deviation in my supplementation and health regime for over a year. It was quite amazing that within 4 days my twitching completely disappeared and has not come back after 1 month of continued use. I would also add that the first dose of 2 tablets produced a demonstrable increase in my energy that I can only describe as “focused coherence”. Needless to say, I got a serious amount of work accomplished with a great sense of mental clarity, for whatever reason. I realized that the dosage was one per day, so I backed off and went to what was recommended and this is now my morning coffee!
