Treat Your Dog To Good Health This Holiday Season

If you have a dog in your family, chances are you put something in the Christmas stocking for them each year too. But instead of buying the usual dog toys or extra treats this year, why not buy them the gift of better health?

Why dogs need Omega 3?

Most of us know about the importance of including Omega 3 in our diets, but did you know it’s important for your pets too?

Fats are one of the most important components of your dog’s diet, second only to protein. In the wild, nearly half the calories wild dogs eat are from fat.[1] Like humans, dogs need both saturated and unsaturated fats for good health.

Polyunsaturated fats come in two forms: Omega 3 and Omega 6. These two fats work hand in hand to control inflammation in the body - Omega 3 has anti-inflammatory properties, while Omega 6 is pro-inflammatory. Omega 3 and 6 need to be in balance for optimum health.

Dogs cannot produce either Omega 3 or 6, so they need to obtain these fats from their diet. In the wild, dogs eat deer, elk and other wild meats which naturally have a healthy balance of Omega 3 and 6. But most commercial dog foods are produced from farmed beef and chicken, which are much lower in Omega 3 and higher in Omega 6. Grain based dog biscuits are particularly high in Omega 6.

Over time, this high consumption of Omega 6 relative to Omega 3 can promote a state of low-level inflammation. In dogs, this chronic inflammation can lead to a range of degenerative and health conditions, including eczema, arthritis and joint problems, poor vision and a dull, dry coat.

The case for supplements

There are two types of Omega 3 Fatty Acids: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Pets need both EPA and DHA for good health, but dogs cannot produce the amounts they need on their own. For optimal wellbeing, our four-legged friends need to consume DHA and EPA through diet and/or supplementation.

How Omega 3 can help your dog

The EPA and DHA in Omega 3 supports the health of your dog’s entire body, from their immune system to the health of their skin and coat.

By preventing inflammation, Omega 3 can help prevent common age-related health concerns such arthritis and other joint problems, skin conditions and problems with dog’s eyes.

Clever dogs:Manage stress and hyperactivity, while naturally supporting learning ability, behaviour and overall brain function.

Strong hearts: Studies show that dogs taking omega 3 can benefit from longer lives and improved cardiovascular health.

Bright, healthy eyes:High in essential fatty acids which have been proven to help support and maintain your dog's eye health and vision.

Healthy, supple joints: High in DHA and EPA to manage joint inflammation, support cartilage health and promote better mobility.

Strong immunity:supports a healthy immune system, reducing your dog's risk of health concerns and helping with general health.

Glossy coat and healthy skin:relieve dry and itchy skin and reduce shedding, providing advanced support for a glossy, silky coat.
