Health Matters Newsletter - June 2020

Another few days and it will be the shortest day of the year for us here in the Southern Hemisphere. But for all our friends and customers in the Northern Hemisphere, you are hopefully enjoying the longer days and warmer weather.

If you are one of our many customers in the US I hope that you are staying safe and healthy through what has been a major period of turmoil for you with the lockdowns from COVID-19 followed by the widespread protests as part of the Black Lives Matters campaigns. With regard to COVID-19, you may have heard that we now have no active cases in NZ at all and it has been 22 days with no new cases in spite of continued extensive testing... so that is good news.

What is emerging worldwide as scientists review the data on COVID-19 is that the risk of dying from it or becoming very sick is extremely low if you do not have any underlying conditions. This reinforces the importance of taking good care of your foundational health, or another way of putting it is your ‘general health’.

Part of any strategy for looking after your general health is to review any medications that you may be on. Over the years, I have seen many, many customers who are on multiple medications, some of which were doing more harm than good.

A good example is statin drugs.

There are some real question marks regarding the desirability of this class of drugs which are used to lower cholesterol. I am not suggesting if you are taking one that you should discontinue them... that is not up to me to comment on... but, if you are on them I think that you might find it interesting to look at the two videos I am doing on Beyond Health Tips later this week.

Talking about statins, there is one critical thing that you must be aware of if you are taking one, and that is how statins deplete your bodies store and production of CoQ10. I am sure that you are aware of CoQ10 and the important role that it plays for both heart and general overall health and energy. CoQ10 is manufactured by our liver. The same metabolic pathway is used for our bodies to produce cholesterol. So, when you take a statin drug, it blocks that metabolic pathway so not only does it prevent the full production of cholesterol, it also blocks the CoQ10 as well, with many negative health effects.

So, if you are on a statin, ensure that you get a daily dose of CoQ10. The best form is called Ubiquinol which is significantly more effective than the common form known as Ubiquinone. This is because Ubiquinone is the oxidized form and our bodies have to convert it to Ubiquinol which is difficult to do as we get older.

This is why we only use the genuine Ubiquinol from Kaneka in Japan for our QH/Ultra. It really does work, and when combined with our Omega 3 fish oil, it is an important part of any program to promote good foundational health.

Oh... in this issue we would like to get a sense of how many prescription drugs our customers are on. Be appreciated if you could do the little survey below.

    Thank you. Until next time.

Welcome back to our Health Matters newsletter for June.

This month, as we continue to hear the importance of taking care of your foundational health, Warren talks about prescription medicine – and where these might do more harm than good.

For many of our customers a good example of this is a statin drug, used to lower cholesterol. But are you aware of the impact it has on your body's CoQ10 production and storage?

    Hi Clive,

Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well with you.

Yes, LP (a) is an interesting marker and warrants a video on its own. It is my intention to look at each of the markers in individual videos as there is quite a story surrounding each of them. It was certainly a factor which was taken into account when we designed CX8 and the ingredients in it should certainly help with it. If you don’t mind I will address this in more detail a bit later as I am somewhat overwhelmed with work at the moment…made worst by the COVID-19 situation. ☹

I certainly agree about the importance of diet although I don’t think that one diet fits all. I have seen people thrive on one type of diet and yet others can get ill on the same time. I personally believe in the low carb way of eating. I think that the key for diet is to eat in such a way that will not promote Type 2 diabetes and if someone has it then eradicate it. I will give some serious thought and come up with a series of videos that address this subject.

    Cheers,
    Warren

Warren, Fascinating listening to your short video updates in which I tend to agree, although I’m surprised you don’t touch more on the subject of diets which can be equally as important.
What I would like to ask is how come you don’t get to mention LP which is generally known to be the most prevalent inherited risk factor for coronary heart disease & stroke. This can be measured by a single blood test.
Without going into more detail at this stage about myself I would be interested to know your thoughts on the subject & whether you believe that any of your supplements assist with this deadly lipid.
    Many Thanks for your response.
