Doctor Approves Binge Eating?
At least according to hotdog eating champion Joey Chestnut (yes, this guy is a champion at binge eating). He says that his doctor gave him the green light to compete in food competitions where contestants can consume as much as 20,000 calories in one sitting.
Apparently this is fine since his doctor checks his blood and because Joey runs and watches his normal diet, he doesn’t gain excess weight. So this means that at the age of 27, Joey can still go on competitive food binges for a few more years right? Wrong!
What Joey’s doctor seems to have ignored is the fact that the human stomach and digestive system isn’t meant handle such a barrage of food in a short period of time.
To give you an idea of the volume that these competitors can consume during these so-called 'competitions', in 2009 Joey ate 68 hot dogs and buns in just 10 minutes.
It boggles the mind as to how much damage is being done to his system. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter that he tries to stay healthy by exercising and eating healthy when he’s not on the stage… the digestive system simply cannot handle a massive load of food in one sitting, let during in regular competitions.
It may be true that the physiques of some competitive eaters are relatively slim and hardly the obese frame one would imagine them to be. However, the real damage lies within, even at a cellular level. Any binge session, regardless if it is food, alcohol or drug related, surely cannot be given the green light by any self-respecting doctor.
Maybe Joey’s doctor has ulterior motives?
