What does the Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium do that the Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil standard version does not?
Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium, like our standard version, contains an exceptionally pure and fresh blend of fish oil that helps support immunomodulation (inflammation management) and has high levels of DHA...BUT...it also contains two natural carote-noids, namely Lyc-O-Mato® (a complex form of lycopene) and astaxanthin.
These two ingredients take the benefits of this fish oil to a whole new level...providing in-creased support to the skin, promoting ‘beauty from within’, as well as helping reduce free radical activity. However, these are only a fraction of the benefits that you may receive from Lyc-O-Mato® and astaxanthin.
Both astaxanthin and lycopene are ingredients that are already in the Total Balance products. Since I take Total Balance and Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil daily, what is to be gained by adding these two ingredients to the Omega 3 Premium?
You are right about this if you are already taking Total Balance Premium. The premium version of Total Balance contains more astaxanthin than we have in Omega 3 / DHA Premium. All versions of Total Balance also contain lycopene so you are already getting these benefits. But, there is some benefit in increasing your lycopene intake.
There were two main rationales in developing this version. One was to enable our fish oil to compete with krill oil companies - who place a lot of emphasis on the astaxanthin con-tent - and the other was to develop a product that would provide some benefits for those people who want to do something for their skin but cannot afford to take our Total Bal-ance.
Our Omega 3 fish oil is by far our biggest seller and many people who use it cannot afford to take Total Balance as well, so this is a way for them to get the extra benefits for just an extra couple of dollars per month.
Can I take the standard version of the Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil with the Omega 3 Pre-mium?
The Premium version contains everything that is available in this Omega 3 fish oil...even the same amounts per soft gel. The difference lies in the addition of natural lycopene and astaxanthin...
This means that the Premium version provides the same health benefits as this Omega 3/DHA fish oil, plus additional benefits such as reducing the visible effects of photo-aging, among others...all of this for just a few extra dollars. You don’t need to take both...just the one you prefer.
What is the recommended dosage?
We recommend between two to four soft gels per day for adults. In other words one to two bottles per month. For teenagers, it is okay for them to take two soft gels per day. For younger children, one soft gel per day will be fine.
My soft gels have a deep-red color and I’ve noticed some particles in the oil. Is this normal?
The Omega 3/DHA Premium and Omega 3/QH Ultra fish oil soft gels contain a small amount of annatto (Bixa oerallana seed extract). This provides a natural red color that is used to help complement the color of both the lycopene and astaxanthin present in these products.
The particles are natural lycopene. When we encapsulate the oil, these particles are fully suspended so we get the right amount of lycopene in each soft gel, but they settle out af-ter the encapsulation is complete.
What size are the soft gels and are they easy to swallow?
The soft gels are an industry standard 1000 mg soft-gel and are quite easy to swallow. If you still have some difficulty swallowing them, you can always puncture the soft gels you're about to take and squeeze the oil out onto food. This method is perfectly fine and won’t compromise the product’s efficacy, provided the food is consumed quickly before the fish oil can oxidize.
How safe are the two added ingredients in the Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium?
These are perfectly safe. Lyc-O-Mato® is a form of lycopene that is extracted from ripe red tomatoes. Lycopene is naturally found in not just tomatoes but also watermelons, red car-rots and papayas. Although lycopene is classified as a carotenoid, it has no Vitamin A ac-tivity which is good because Vitamin A in excessively high doses can be toxic.
Astaxanthin is an organic pigment that is mostly found in plants and algae. The rich pink color of salmon, shrimp, lobster and even flamingos are a result of their Astaxanthin-rich diet.
I spent a lot of time in the sun when I was young and now, at the age of 52, the skin on my face, back and arms are rough and almost leathery. Will the Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium help my condition?
The combination of Lyc-O-Mato® and Astaxanthin may help reduce the roughness and scaling of your skin. In fact, it may even increase the thickness, density and natural mois-ture levels of your skin. Sun exposure is beneficial because it enables the body to syn-thesize and produce vitamin D, although common sense must prevail and you shouldn’t over-expose yourself to the prolonged sunlight that causes your skin to become pink and burnt.
I really like the fact that your Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium promotes 'beauty from within'. However, what products can I take in addition to the fish oil in order to im-prove my skin’s health and appearance?
Good all-round skincare starts from within and our Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium should provide your skin with necessary natural ingredients to ensure a healthy appear-ance. In addition to the fish oil, we suggest trying our range of skincare products as they will work closely with the Lyc-O-Mato® and Astaxanthin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and firm up sagging skin...all whilst supporting and nourishing your skin both inside and out.
You should also add one of our Total Balance products, especially the Premium version if possible.
Can Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil Premium be taken while pregnant or nursing?
Our position on this is that it is safe for both pregnant and nursing women but we're not at liberty to recommend it for this. It should be an issue to discuss with your physician. If in doubt during pregnancy, you can switch back to our standard Omega/DHA Fish Oil. Fish oil is well proven to be beneficial for pregnant and nursing women.

Competitive Prices and Effective
I like Xtend-Life's fish oil for multiple reasons.
For one, they check every batch for oxidation and contaminants. Their specifications are quite stringent, and you will see this on their website.
Secondly, the fishy burps are kept to a minimum. One reviewer commented on the rancidity of the fish oil that she had received, but as of my second bottle I've had no problems. I do get burps occasionally, which is expected, but the capsules do not cause stomach discomfort or leave fishy aftertaste/burps.
The price is competitive, and actually better than other leading brands such as Icelandic Health, Nordic Naturals, and Douglas Labs. They also include antioxidants and carotenoids (lycopene and astaxanthin) in this formulation as well, which you won't find in the other fish oil brands. Both are fat-soluble as well, which increases bioavailability/absorption when combined with fish oil. As an aside, if you can't afford this, I've found Kirkland to be cheap and effective for its price.
Xtend-Life's fish oil is high in DHA. It is still open to debate whether high EPA or high DHA is better to take, and it may be helpful to try another well-respected brand that is high in EPA (such as Nordic Naturals) to see what works best for you. There are some studies which show that high EPA is better for mood stabilization, and high DHA for blood pressure treatment, so it may depend on what your objective is in taking fish oil. If it is simply for optimizing health, Xtend-Life argues that high DHA is better because it is easier to convert DHA->EPA than it is to convert EPA->DHA because of the 2 extra carbons that already exist on DHA, and I've found a couple studies which support this viewpoint.
All in all, this is definitely worth trying. Xtend Life is also very reasonable with their returns policy and, contrary to what another reviewer has stated, I've personally found their customer service to be very good. You'll just have to see for yourself.

Cloudy, Smelly fish oil
i have been taking these for about 4-5 months and i usually order 2 months supply to get free shipping from xtendlife.com and the last shipment i received from them i noticed the fish oil were really cloudy, it looked like there was some kind of residue in them and that kinda freaked me out so i did some research and learned that if you put your fish oil in the refrigerator it can make it cloudy but i never put them in the refrigerator so i did some more research and learned that if you break a capsule open it should not smell like fish to the point where you want to throw up, so i broke a capsule open and oh my God it smelled like rotten fish so to compare, i took a capsule from my brother (Nordic Naturals) and did the same test and it smelled fresh and clean nothing like Xtendlife omega 3 fish oil. so i have 2 months of supply and i contacted xtendlife and explained the whole situation and asked for return and they basically said it was okay to take these and if i wanted to return them i had to pay for the shipping. i wrote back to them like 4 times and got the same answer until i got fed up and just gave up. before this incident i was okay with their products but now i would never order from them ever again because i don't want to put something in my body i'm not comfortable with. i hate leaving bad reviews and i actually never do because i understand no one is perfect but you should at least do the right thing to satisfy your customers, but now that i'm done with this review i can search for a reputable brand that actually gives a crap about their customers.
