Your attitude to others defintely does have an influence on your own health. If you are negative to others, it does set up mechanisims in the body which can lead to ill health. This is why you will find that all long lived people have one thing in common... their attitude. It is always positive!
So even though this blog is not strictly about health, it is indirectly. I also beleive the same principles apply to corporates. Unfortunately there are not a lot of Corporates that understand this but there are some that do, and they seem to be the ones that prosper.
Let me tell you a little story.
A few months ago our son-in-law Wayne checked into hospital to have a ‘preventative’ procedure for his heart. It was not urgent but the Doctors said that if he didn’t do it he may have a shortened life. He was 42 years old with a beautiful little 5 year old girl. Wayne delayed his surgery for a couple of weeks so he could be with his daughter Jasmine for her first day at school.
My Daughter Selena called the cable TV provider in New Zealand Sky to arrange what is referred to as ‘My Sky’ so Wayne would have access to the various channels whilst he was in bed recovering over the following weeks.
He had the operation and all went well. But, 6 hours after the operation whilst my daughter was sitting by his side he told her he didn’t feel good. His heart rate and blood pressure dropped rapidly and Selena was told to leave the ICU, the doctors rushed him back into theatre but sadly 60 minutes later he was dead.
I won’t try to convey the shock that we all had because most of us have experienced such grief during our lifetimes.
Anyway, a few days later Selena called the company with the ‘Sky’ TV and cancelled the installation because Wayne would not be there to enjoy it.
Now... last night the Company called Selena and told her they want to come out and install ‘My Sky’ (which had been cancelled) for free...and give her 6 months subscription also for free. They also gave her three months of multi-room for free. This came as a pleasant surprise and was good to see that all corporates are not dehumanised. The flow on effect from gestures such as this affects many people in a positive way which in turn helps their health.
I have shared this story with you because every day we all have opportunties to make someone’s life a little better through small kind gestures. Corporates should, where possible, do similar things for their customers which will help make this world a happier place to live in.
