Well, it’s not an official competition but one can easily think so considering the latest ‘burger’ that has waddled onto the menu of an Australian junk-food outlet. First came the Double Down burger…a fat-laden behemoth that included two greasy chicken pieces separated with cheese and bacon. Just when you thought it was safe to look at a junk-food menu…along comes the OMG Double Double ‘burger’.
I say ‘burger’ because the seemingly innocent food of choice for cartoon characters like Jughead from the Archie comics and Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons has become something far more sinister.
The OMG Double Double is similar to the Double Down (yes, I know it’s becoming double the effort to remember these excuses for meals) – however, its weapon of choice to attack your system is a pair of doughnuts instead of the Double Down’s grease saturated chicken pieces.
The junk-food industry (commonly known as the fast-food or take-aways industry) has yet again come up with scary method to contribute towards a society that’s already unhealthy, obese and more prone to degenerative diseases than ever before.
These companies seem to be playing a game to see who can contribute to the early deaths of their customers…and the competition is heating up!
Until the governments realize that the best way to get more money back into the economy is to attack the causes of preventable health conditions and degenerative diseases…and act on the problem – the cost of treating people suffering from these diseases will continue to put a serious strain on the economies of most western countries.
