Is Grey Hair a Sign of Getting Old?

We all worry when we first find those few 'lighter' hairs. We all perhaps try to pull them out and forget about them, and later on become more concerned as we seem to not be able to cover it up anymore! However, is it really something to worry about? Is it really a sign of aging? And can we do anything about it?

First of all, it may be helpful to know some general information about grey hair and how it occurs, to understand the process and then how to deal with it.

Grey hair in itself is not specifically related to aging. Gray hair can occur as young as in our teens and range into our late 50's and even older.

Everybody is different but the pigment of our hair is generated in the same way. Initially, hair is white. The cells in our hair follicles called "Melanocytes" generate pigments, the main one being Melanin. This gives our hair its "Color". In general, the more melanin present, the darker the hair color; the less melanin, the lighter the hair color.

When these Melanocytes stop producing the pigment the result is a transparent hair. The transparent hair against your healthier darker hair gives the appearance of Gray hair. In reality the hair is not Gray but transparent.

Harvard scientists propose that a failure of melanocyte stem cells (MSC) to maintain the production of melanocytes could cause the greying of hair as one potential cause. Heredity is another potential cause, and down to genes. In some cases, gray hair may instead be caused by a deficiency of B12 or a thyroid imbalance.

So there are many causes, it isn't specifically the aging process.

Once the actual grey hairs appear they cannot be reversed. However, with correct OVERALL health it is possible to perhaps restore some of the melanocyte production in the hair follicle to help produce healthy colored hair again.

Supplements for general health therefore can help.

Our Total Balance isn't specifically a hair supplement; however, it can help in terms of helping to prevent greying or aging of hair in the same way, simply by trying to keep the hair follicles healthy. It isn't for this or any other purpose a sole cure and you should ensure that your lifestyle is healthy, diet, fluids, and exercise. Also, our Omega 3 / DHA Plus or Omega 3 / QH Premium CoQ10 is helpful, as fish oils are known to be good for not only general systems in the body but also skin, hair, and nails, and the added herbal ingredients in these two versions are known for their further skin, hair, and nail help.

Ensure that all hormonal levels are good, which is also where Total Balance can help, for both men and women, and even our Male Rejuvenator for men if furthermore specific hormonal causes are expected.

Total Balance and Omega 3 / DHA Plus, as well as a healthy diet, lifestyle, fluid intake, and exercise, can help beneficially as part of an entire approach, to ensure that your hair follicles are as healthy as possible, therefore giving you the best chance of an optimum result in any other specific area - such as if you were to try a specific product for hair color growth.

Also the improvements in general supplements, lifestyle, etc, you can use other more specific hair product is much more likely to work. So you could even work both together if you wished.

We do have people that have taken our Total balance and Omega 3 / DHA ranges with results that their hair and skin have improved both in strength, color and general youthfulness. Benefits are individual of course and degrees of them too.

I started getting grey hair around 5 years ago, and I’ve been self conscious about it as its gotten worse. I have been looking for different ways to cover it up and haven’t really been satisfied with anything yet. I have started using catalase xp. That has shown some real improvements but only time will tell. hope this helps- Mark https://catalasexp.com

I agree with Charles – I have individual hairs that have changed midgrowth from white to brown. I had pulled them out (because they were sticking out like sore thumbs) only to be surprised by the brown lower half (and root). I’ve actually saved them. The change from white to brown happened progessively in about half an inch (10mm) of growth, so for me that’s about a month. This coincided with changes to my diet (cutting out wholegrains – yes, really, and supplementing copper, omega 3, alpha lipoic acid).

My hair started going white when I was 26, and for years I colored it. I stopped, and now it is my pride and joy, almost totally white with some dark at my nape area. It is nearly to my waist, and I get compliments on it constantly, people even ask me if they can touch it. I don’t want it to get "younger", and this is why I stay away from cosmetic products or health products claiming to rejuvenate hair color. I am fanatical about hair and skin, and am lucky enough to have the genetics that make my skin look younger than my actual age. XtendLife is helping in that direction. I bought my first bottle, used them, and had to wait a month or so before ordering the second. The drop in my energy and feeling of well-being was noticeable and convincing during this wait. I’m now a permanent fan, and strongly advise the use of their vitamins and Omega oils!!!

In your coverage about gray hair you state that the graying process cannot be reversed.  My wife and I are living examples that this statement is not completely accurate.  I am 85 and my hair was completely gray for several years.  Now the dark brown hair color of my youth has returned.  My wife’s hair had turned completely white, and is now a composite of dark and white intermixed.  We achieved this through taking a special mixture of curcumin combined with other ingredients that greatly increases the bioavailability of curcumin.  Curcumin normally has a very, very limited bioavailability — my estimate is about 0.1 percent, and so taking regular curcumin, even in huge amounts, is not likely to affect gray hair.  All I needed to bring about the color transformation was a mixture containing 600 mg of curcumin per day.  And no, I am not in the business of selling the curcumin mixture.

Warren,

I can tell you that my own hair has gotten slightly darker since taking your fish oil products. How do I know this? It’s actually very easy, I can see from the top of my head how much darker it looks compared to the rest of my hair. My hair used to be consistently salt and pepper, so it’s kinda strange seeing the dark patching on top…but hey Ill take whatever I can get:-)

Thanks again,

-Alex

I also noticed a hair that was gray which turned brown closer to the root. It was about half and half. This suprised me as I’ve always heard you can’t reverse gray. But, right there was physical proof that hair came out gray but then was coming out brown.

The only real change in my diet recently was less carbs and Vitamin Butter Oil with Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil
supplements at a very high dose.
It looks like several other people who have noticed this have been taking curcumin and/or lots of cod liver oil and/or vitamin d3 megadoses.
