A news article hit a national UK newspaper to this effect in 2009, and has recently re-appeared. I thought I had to touch on this and share this with Xtend-Life readers! In its never-ending attempt to fabricate so-called 'mental disorders' out of every human activity, the conventional psychiatric industry is pushing the most ridiculous disease they've invented yet: “Healthy Eating Disorder”.
This is no joke. It was an actual newspaper article in a reputable UK newspaper.
Apparently, the story goes that if you focus on eating healthy foods you are "fanatical” and this is classed as a psychological problem and probably in need of some sort of chemical treatment involving powerful psychotropic drugs. The Guardian newspaper reports, "Fixation with healthy eating can be sign of serious psychological disorder" and goes on to claim this "disease" is called orthorexia nervosa -- which is basically just Latin for "nervous about correct eating."
Now of course there is a difference between concentrating on a normal healthy lifestyle and being possibly a bit over-fanatical. This can be the case with any form of behaviour if it is taken to the extreme. So from that point of view, if someone were potentially harming themselves by, for example, only eating raw carrots and nothing else of course I too would be worried and suggest some kind of rehabilitation into a general healthy eating regime. BUT to suggest that someone is “mentally ill” by concentrating on their healthy diet is rather dangerous and perhaps stinks of pharmaceutical industry media pushing (again)?!
Anyway, back to the story....
Talking about this fabricated "orthorexia", The Guardian goes on to report, "Orthorexics commonly have rigid rules around eating. Refusing to touch sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, wheat, gluten, yeast, soya, corn and dairy foods, which is just the start of their diet restrictions. Any foods that have come into contact with pesticides, herbicides or contain artificial additives are also out."
So by saying that people with this mindset have a 'disease' they are saying that by attempting to avoid chemicals, excess dairy, soy and sugar now means that you have a definitive psychological disorder? Apparently so! According to these experts. If you actually take special care to avoid pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified ingredients like soy and sugar, there's something wrong with you.
We notice that within this article there is no mention of fast (junk) foods. It is then, I take it, ok to eat processed junk foods laced with synthetic chemicals? That seems okay with them. The mental patients are the ones who choose organic, natural foods, apparently.
The Guardian concludes by saying, "The obsession about which foods are "good" and which are "bad" means orthorexics can end up malnourished."
So, what is "normal" when it comes to foods?
Although this is only opinion, it may be that this type of article comes about through the well known media presentation control of the pharmaceutical industries with regards to trying to supress healthy eating so that we need conventional drugs to control the resultant disorders and diseases. As I say, this is only a potential theory and opinion, but when you read articles like this you do have to ask yourself why? And what is behind it?!
Such as the attempt some time ago to supress the eating of broccoli, of all things, because of its anti-cancer phytonutrients (amongst other dark green vegetables of course!).
I really hope that people are not taken in by these media-fests, and realise that, if you want to be alive, aware and in control of your own life, eating more healthy living foods is one first step on the ladder.
