Support For Mental Alertness

Green Tea Extract Background and Benefits

Green tea extract is derived from the green leaves of the tea plant, scientifically known as Camellia sinensis. It has been an essential herb in traditional medicine for centuries, especially in China and India. Green tea extract is also a highly popular dietary supplement in western countries, including the United States.

Green tea extract is available in a variety of specific forms. A strong infusion involves soaking the tea leaves in alcohol, typically resulting in a two percent concentration of green tea extract. A dry extract can be made from this infusion by spraying it onto a surface and allowing it to dry. This process increases the concentration of solids to 40 to 50 percent. A soft extract of green tea leaves is only partially dry and has a concentration of 20 to 25 percent.

The biochemical properties of green tea extract include antioxidant properties. It may also help support healthy inflammation management in the body. The antioxidant properties in green tea extract are primarily due to a class of chemicals called polyphenols, known collectively as Green Tea Polyphenols (GTPs).
