Question: From Linda. (Subject: Pets and supplements...)q1
Hey, I have a question/comment...
I am a first-time client. I ordered the Omega 3 product. A strange "habit" of mine is to present my vitamins to my kitty, knowing that animals sense what is good and natural far better than we humans do.
Grace (my kitty) tried to dig the Omega 3 out of the jar. She was very, very interested in eating them. This sort of indicated to me that they are good stuff.
I take an all-natural multi-vitamin also that she loves.
I have presented synthetic, over-the-counter nutrients to her before and she pulls her sensitive little nose back immediately and gets a look as if to say "Are you nuts. I wouldn't eat this stuff!"
Which bring me to my question...
Do you feel it is safe to give these nutrients to animals?
Answer: From Nicolien.
Thanks for your delightful email.
The fish oil is certainly OK for cats, I would not give her one daily but every now and again one squeezed soft gel in her food, or just by itself would be good for her. My cat quite likes it as well. The same health benefits from Omega 3 apply for cats as well as for us. It is very good for the immune system, cardiovascular health and for inflammation and arthritis-type disorders, or simply as a preventative supplement.
Your kitty could also benefit from our Total Balance (unisex) but…only in very small amounts, and not on a daily basis, but every now and again a powdered 1/4 tablet would be OK.

Question: From Jill. (Subject: Iron in Total Balance...)q2
I am interested in purchasing Total Balance for women, but I am concerned that there appears to be no Iron in this formula and as a vegetarian I am interested to hear your comments/recommendations.
Answer: From Nicolien.
None of our products including Total Balance contain iron. This is because too much iron acts as an oxidant which is negative to overall health. Unless you have an iron deficiency (iron deficiency anemia) you should be able to get plenty of iron out of your daily diet even as a vegetarian. Dietary sources of iron are e.g. herbs such as dandelion leaves, chickweed, nettle and raspberry leaf, steamed spinach, kelp and seaweeds, parsley, broccoli, green beans, tomato juice, kidney beans, and artichokes.
If your Doctor has advised you to take a supplement, try to get ferrous fumarate or ferrous succinate. This is the best form.

Question: From Jill. (Subject: Homocysteine.)q3
I have a new problem... I have recently been informed that I have a high Homocysteine levels. I'm not sure just what this is. Do you have anything that would help this condition?
Answer: From Nicolien.
Here is some info on homocysteine which will help you decide what to do. You will also find more info on our website under the Heart Attack/Stroke protocols which you can find by clicking on 'Benefits'.
"Homocysteine, a normal breakdown product of the essential amino acid methionine, is believed to exert several toxic effects. An elevated homocysteine level is an often overlooked or ignored but important marker for heart disease, independent of other known risk factors, such as elevated serum cholesterol and hypertension.
Increased homocysteine levels may also be a risk factor for the development of many other conditions, including stroke, thromboembolism (blood clots that can dislodge and cause stroke, heart attack, and other complications), osteoporosis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), Alzheimer's disease, death from diabetes, miscarriage, other complications of pregnancy, and hypothyroidism.
Homocysteine levels can easily be reduced with safe and inexpensive natural supplementation. No pharmaceutical drugs are needed to control it. Substances that are effective for lowering or preventing high plasma homocysteine levels (supported by clinical studies) are the following:
Betaine, Choline, Folic Acid, Vitamin B6, B12, DMG, Lecithin, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) and Phosphatidylcholine (all present in our Total Balance)."
