Answer: From Nicolien.
Indeed it will Kurt! There are many ingredients in our Total Balance that play a very important role in helping (to prevent) atherosclerosis and help in the removal of plaque from your arteries. The prime ones are: Tocotrienols, Hawthorne, Turmeric, Guggul/Myrrh, Policosanol, Gingko and Ginger.
In addition, Copper, Manganese, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Bromelain, Folic Acid, Lycopene, Naringin, Rutin, Vitamin B3, B5, B6, B12, C, Vitamin E, DMG, L-Arginine, L-Carnosine, L-Tyrosine, Myricetin, Phosphatidylcholine, Quercetin, Resveratrol, Lipase, Papain, Betaine HCl, Amylase, Bromelain, Isolase and Bilberry also play an important role.
These ingredients work in different but complementary ways to "clean" arteries by preventing clotting, cholesterol peroxidation, as well as helping to reduce deterioration of the lining of arteries, etc.
If you would like additional information on any of these specific ingredients you can find them along with references and clinical studies by Ingredients.

Your website seems to be very thorough. I have been researching different supplement companies for awhile, and have been rather confused lately. Everybody claims that their product is the best.
I am a 26 year old young woman, with no health problems that I know of. Keeping this is mind, I have a few questions:
I don't want to take 40 capsules a day just to maintain my health level. What can I take, that would essentially keep me in good health, and protect my immune system? Is Total Balance all I need, or would I need to take an Omega formula also?
I went to a health seminar the other day. One of the doctors was suggesting that a person should take a whole food supplement, Omega 3, and probiotics, in order to maintain good health. Is all of this necessary?
What is the difference between a probiotic supplement and an antioxidant supplement (if there is one)?
Answer: From Nicolien.
Having to take a lot of supplements a day is a real problem and was the main driving factor in us developing Total Balance with its synergistic blend of 85 ingredients. I will answer your questions in the same order.
In order to maintain good general health you would only need to take Total Balance as your foundation supplement and add the Omega 3 DHA fish oil. If you took the full recommended dose you would be only taking 6 tablets a day of Total Balance and 2 soft gels of Omega 3.
Whereas we could put some DHA/EPA (which are the key components of Omega 3) into the Total Balance, it would have to be in powder form which is nowhere as potent as the natural form in fish oil, which is why we have a separate product for this.
Combining these two products together will give you the greatest spectrum of protection possible at the lowest possible cost. You will be targeting all organs in your body and all systems. You will notice a difference in energy and your immune system will be substantially strengthened.
I agree with this…to an extent. If you are taking a quality supplement such as Total Balance which also works on improving your digestive system and if you combine it with a good diet you should not need to take probiotics. On the other hand it doesn't do any harm at all to take probiotics either in the form of a supplement or as yoghurt, PROVIDED it is a good natural one (organic preferably). Avoid the flavoured ones as they are full of sugar. But…this is not usually necessary unless your gastro-intestinal health is already compromised.
Probiotic supplements provide the gastro-intestinal tract with naturally occurring beneficial bacteria that are essential for digestion. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bactobacillus bifidum are examples. Sometimes imbalances of the bacteria living in the intestines can occur (e.g. through anti-biotic use). This can cause problems with digestion, Candida albicans or other (negative) bacterial overgrowth.
Anti-oxidants are substances that counteract free radical damage (or highly reactive oxygen molecules that can bind to and destroy body components). Free radical damage causes aging and initiates many diseases. There are many types of anti-oxidants. Common ones are various vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, E, and selenium, and there are the less common anti-oxidants such as Tocotrienols, resveratrol, quercetin, red clover, gotu kola, hawthorne, bilberry etc. Some of these are significantly more potent than the common vitamins or minerals.

My concern was raised when a local newspaper reported in their health article, that Black Cohosh could cause health problems. I am concerned because my wife is taking Total Balance Women's Plus. Can you please clarify why you use this ingredient?
Answer: from Nicolien.
We are aware that there are some articles which have been published casting doubt on the safety of Black Cohosh. This botanical is like many others in the respect that if taken in excess for extended periods of time that not only may the benefits be lost but there may be negative implications.
Prof. Dr. A Munem (who directs our R & D Dept) factors in all these concerns when working on developing or refining any of our formulas. In the case of Black Cohosh it is a well proven safe herb if used correctly. It has been widely used for hundreds if not thousands of years. We use 100mgs of Black Cohosh extract in 6 tablets of Total Balance Women's Plus (16.66mgs per tablet).
This amount as with all the herbs and other substances that we use are much lower than what has been established to be safe. We do not rely on mega-doses of each nutrient for efficacy but rather a blend of substances all with slightly different properties that can complement each other and give an even higher level of efficacy but without any potential risks which can sometimes be present in large doses of single nutrients.
