Cancer... can it be cured?

Cancer... can it be cured?

This is the most controversial question that can be asked and certainly provokes the most controversial answers. Over the years there have been many instances in which scientists have claimed to have had success in curing various types of cancers. Unless it involved a drug or a treatment that fitted within the current cancer ‘treatment industry’ all these scientists have been either discredited or put out of business in one way or another and their ‘alternative’ treatments have died with them.

Because of this, conspiracy theories about big Pharma or the FDA deliberately suppressing new unorthodox treatment protocols over the last 20 or 30 years have become rife.

However, like most conspiracy theories there is little documented evidence to support them, and they remain just that…a theory, until someone does the research to document the facts.

An investigative reporter has however done some extensive research on a scientist/Doctor who has had some amazing results and who has been ridiculed and harrassed by the authorities for several decades.  At the end of this post there is link to a documentary put together by this investigative reporter...which you will find amazing and shocking.

But first, let me tell you a true story as it involves the Doctor whom the documentary is about.

A couple of years ago a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with a very aggressive brain tumor.  I encouraged him to research alternatives to radiation and chemotherapy because they had virtually a zero chance of curing this type of brain cancer.  However, the oncologist convinced him surgery, then, radiation in combination with a new ‘superduper’ chemotherapy drug was the way to go.  I don’t know the name of the drug other than that it was very expensive ($100,000+ per course).

After two courses of this and two surgeries the Doctors said that there was nothing further that they could do.   A friend of mine Dr Ali Mohammad suggested that a friend of his Dr Stan Burzynski in Texas may be able to help as he specialising in brain tumors.  However, at this stage my friend was too ill to travel all the way from New Zealand to Texas, so Dr Ali called Dr Burzynski who was in Japan at the time and he was willing to depart from his normal protocol and arrange to have the treatment done in New Zealand.

Unfortunately by that time my friend was feeling very tired, and when I called him from my Thailand office and explained that I had it set up, he said, “Warren, I really appreciate what you have been doing to try and help, but, I think that I will now just let nature take its course.”  He died a few weeks later.

Many of us in our lifetime will encounter situations like this either with family members or close friends.  Even if we know that there may be some better options than the conventional treatments it is very difficult to go against the ‘knowledgeable’ Doctors who really do care but know nothing other than what they have learnt in medical school and from medical journals and cannot challenge the status quo.

PS: If you would like to learn a bit more about my friends experience with the brain tumor I wrote a blog about it back in Sept 2010 which you can access by clicking here.

Now, could Dr Burzynski have helped my friend? Sadly we will never know.  I suspect that my friend may have taken a different position on the help if he had not seen all the negative material on the internet about Dr Burzynski where he is called a quack, a fraudster and more.  I did not know him directly, only through my friend Dr Ali, so the recommendation was in that respect second hand.

There has now been a documentary made about Dr Burzynski and his work and I am sure if it had been available at the time my friend needed it that he would have I am sure given it a go.

This documentary which is a full sized program, about an hour 20 minutes is one of the most fascinating documentaries that I have ever seen.  It includes footage of congressional hearings about Dr Burzynski and follows the battle he has been having with the authorities for over 30 years.  It includes large amounts of hard data and at the end of it leaves you feeling quite disgusted how obviously people’s lives are so expendable when it comes to money and power.   Dr Burzynski deserves much credit for being courageous enough to battle all this for so many years.  Also, Dr Julian Whitaker for his role in the documentary.

Even if cancer is not of any real interest to you, but you are interested in what goes on behind the scenes by those organisations that you as a tax payer fund with the express purpose of acting in your best health interest I strongly suggest that you watch it.  Of course, it is not the organisations themselves that are at fault but some of the people in key positions, who are either hard hearted, one eyed, or coerced in some way to take the positions that they do.

To watch the documentary please click here.

If you feel that more people should be aware of this documentary please forward this blog post to them.  Thank you.

I have been following the progress of Dr. Burzynski for some time now as a result of my wife's battles with the disease. I have had the best doctors from the Mass. General Hospital in Boston treating her. If there is any further regression, I will be seeking Dr. Burzynski's help. I am a true believer in his valiant efforts and successes in curing various forms of cancer. He has battled the ridiculous efforts of the FDA to suppress his treatments from the general public. Dr. Burzynski is a true American hero in the minds of all he has helped. If you consider donating to any cancer fighting organization like the bogus Susan G. Komen's organization, then I strongly suggest and urge all to consider donating to Dr. Burzinski's clinic. He has endured legal battle after legal battle and has finally won the right to enroll patients into 'FDA approved' clinical trials but only after they have gone through some form of conventional therapy that failed - as they typically do in most cases. This hero deserves the Nobel Prize in Medicine. If you watch the video documentary, you will understand. On a side note, the blockage of these kinds of efforts by the FDA is one of the reasons I am a big supporter of Newt Gingrich for the presidency of the U.S. Newt is sworn to totally revamp the FDA and there is a huge effort by the establishment and the media to block him in any way possible. We need to take a stand whenever and wherever possible to break the bond between 'Big Pharma' and the FDA.

When I think about cancer scientists that were discredited, Dr. Johanna Budwig comes to mind.  In the late 1940's and early 1950's she was considered the world's foremost authority on edible fats and oils and had been nominated for the Nobel Prize numerous times.  She claimed that the hydrogenated fats used as preservatives in our food was replacing omega 3 oils in the repair of cell walls, which caused them to starve for oxygen.  It was this oxygen starvation that Dr. Otto Warburg described in his Nobel Prize winning cancer research in 1931. More can be read about Budwigs work and struggle with the food and medical industeries at:

     http://www.healingcancernaturally.com/budwig_protocol.html

It sure is peculiar to see that almost all the baked goods found in our grocery stores today have a "0 Transfat" label emblazoned on them.  To me that's nothing more than a tribute to Budwig's work some 60 years after the fact.

Budwig claimed that by using a combination of flaxseed oil, for its linolenic acid (omega 3 oil) and a high sulfur bond protein (cottege cheese or yogurt) diseased cells would eventually be replaced by cells with cell walls that would once again allow normal cellular respiration.

I'm not sure that any serious research has ever been done to substantiate her work and I can only believe that it's because no patent can be made for flaxseed oil or cottege cheese.  In short if it doesn't yield mega profits no one is willing to work with it.

I am quite surprised, that both sides of the argument are not offered here re links to interviews.

Eric Mercola, who is dubious at the best of times and very self- serving regarding selling his products- one of them being Krill, of which the Naturapath at Xtend stated the claims Mercola was making regarding it being superior to other Fish Oils was incorrect which I agree with, is behind the marketing and promoting of the Video that you have attached a Link to.

Secondly there have been many families, having literally mortgaged their homes, fund-raised to be able to pay for Dr. Burzynski treatment, and many died.

Cancer is a term for "many diseases" thus stating one has the Cure for Cancer is misleading in itself

One Link below at least presents the other side of the coin regarding this story.

    Dr. Burzynski

Big Pharma leaves allot to be desired, however when you also have a Dr that won't work with others and let Peers review him, that also is not ideal

Link for another view regarding Dr Burzynski's treatment success. Within the article there are direct links to The Observer and Irish Newspapers with Patient Stories

    Hi Shona,
Just a couple of comments.  The first is that Dr Joe Mercola whom you were referring to is not Eric Merola.  Different name.  Eric Merola was the producer of the documentary, he is not a Doctor and does not claim to be one.
I wonder if you watched the video in full?  I would suggest that you did so as I am sure that you would view the article in 'quackometer' quite differently.  The evidence is available and has been presented multiple times in various court cases and congressional hearings.  May I suggest that you have another look at it with an open mind and then make another assessment.  Remember that he is not claiming a cure for all patients as the evidence makes clear...but, he has had much greater results than conventional treatment without the side effects.  Also take into account that the majority of the patients that he has have already had chemo and radiation which has failed.

DLG is on the money.. "Of course, it is not the organisations themselves that are at fault but some of the people in key positions, who are either hard hearted, one eyed, or coerced in some way to take the positions that they do."

Actually it is the very existence of these organizations that is the root of problems of this type. The concept that government has any right or obligation to "protect" us by regulating an industry and limiting our choices is just plain wrong. There is no perfect system, and bad things will happen to people in any environment, but anytime you create an entity that focuses too much power in one place, you are virtually guaranteed to generate big problems. A focused power can be hijacked and corrupted and if the incentives to do so are large enough then it is guaranteed to happen. A distributed power (i.e.: a power that remains in the hands of the people) is very difficult to hijack and corrupt because it is distributed.

    Hi Warren

Apologies regarding Eric Merola, however yes I did watch the Video in enterity.

I have been heavily involved with Family Deaths with Cancer and another incurrable disease, and have done immense research to try and get help. All I can say is that whilst their are many questions being raised regarding FDA and Big Pharma, there are just as many questons, regarding the many patients who have spent their life savings supposedly being offered a "cure" by people in the Natural Field.

Whilst there are many criticisms of FDA and Traditional Medicine, I also see companies working with compounds that  are less bombastic overall than the the likes of Chemo, with less side affects, and specificically targeted, that are working honestly regarding proper clincial studies and I am thankful for one such treatment offered to me when all else had failed.

Perhaps it is time for the Medical Profession too, to engage more Natural Supplements into their ways of treatments.

In New Zealand, if the Drugs don't work, one has to almost become an expert themselves in what is offered as Natural Support.

Thanks for the efforts you put into making quality products

I can testify as to the effectiveness of Dr. Burzynski's treatments...my wife, age 61, was diagnosed and treated at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Ok, for two years for colon cancer.  Her doctor told her going in that he could not cure the tumor but offer her two quality years of life. He did that. I had heard of Dr. Burzynski, in Houston, Tx, which is only a three hour drive from our home. My wife made an appointment. When Dr. B. walks into the room, you know immediately who is in charge.  After hearing my wife's story and reviewing her records from CTCA, he told her he could cure her cancer.  Four months later her tumor, pain and dependence on pain pills was gone. Then, due to FDA interference in Dr. B's protocol, he gave my wife a commercial cancer drug, Avastin.  One of the side effects of this drug is elevated blood pressure. Sure enough, it affected my wife's heart (prior to this her blood pressure was normal).  She experienced very elevated and uncontrolable blood pressure, causing her kidneys to fail. She died three months later from kidney failure.

So I am a true believer in Dr. Burzynski and his meds.  I am a true disbeliever in the FDA.

If I had cancer I would, without a doubt or hesitation, go see Dr. Burzynski in Houston, Texas.  If the FDA would let him alone, he can do a lot for a lot of people.

I just wanted to post this to support Warren's point which I think most are missing out on, there was a new study done into cancer research, out of which 47 of 53 landmark trials/studies are found to be fraudulent by researchers.
I'll let you read for yourselves, ideally Warren, you should start a new topic with your response on this, would be good to process.
